Moleskine March Days 1 & 2

I personally get really intimidated by my nice art supplies. I get them as gifts or as a treat for myself and then I just hold onto them untouched because I don’t want to waste fancy stuff using them to make art that isn’t perfect. It’s a little ridiculous but it’s a thing my brain does and lately I’ve been trying to challenge that thinking and finally put a few of these things to use.

So for my March daily drawing I decided to finally break in the fancy moleskine that has been sitting on my shelf for a couple years. Every day my goal was to draw something that filled the page and ink it with my new little fountain pen and not really worry about any other sort of theme or quality.

Days 1 and 2 I was still getting the hang of how it felt to draw on the paper (the texture was different than I was used to) and how to ink using the fountain pen’s nib so I went to my comfort zone of drawing some cute elemental critters hanging out in their environments. I like the attempted ink bleed in the mermaid drawing, even if it didn’t work entirely as expected, and there’s something really fun in the little satyr-critter’s face and body language.

Full set is up on instagram if you want to peek ahead but I’ll gradually be posting the others here as well now that I finally had a chance to scan them 🙂
