The rental for “House of Wax” also included a copy of “Mystery of the Wax Museum”, the 1930’s film that inspired it.
This was my first time watching a pre-Hayes code movie and I’ll admit to being surprised by how different it felt. It wasn’t so much outlandishly risque (though the wax statues with tits out were a delight) so much as it made the remake feel super restrained by comparison.
So yeah, this one was a fun time! It was shot in blue and red, which meant it had a rich but not fully saturated range of color that I am completely obsessed with.
