Movie sketch for the 1940’s version of Rebecca.

I read the novel this summer as part of my book bingo and really appreciated the oppressive build of dread in the narrator’s mind. I was so excited to watch the film to see how Hitchcock captured something so internal in an external medium.

I feel like there are a million striking moments in this film, but Mrs. DeWinter being cornered by Mrs. Danvers against the open window, considering the drop, is beautiful and sinister and perfect. I enjoyed getting to play with contrasts and values. It’s a cartoony sketch but I think the vibe is definitely there.
